Force Motors showcased the BS6 compliant Gurkha SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The SUV was expected to launch a couple of months later in April 2020 but the plan was scrapped due to the nationwide lockdown, pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the 2020 Force Gurkha BS6 has been spotted during its final test runs with heavy camouflage while it is expected to arrive at dealerships and go on sale in August-September this year. The Gurkha SUV is one of the most rugged looking off-roaders in India and it directly rivals Mahindra Thar.

Going by the spy-shots, the 2020 Force Gurkha BS6 flaunts round headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The front grille and bumper have been restyled as well to make it appear better than before. The overall boxy profile has been retained with the silhouette intact while the rear end gets a new tail-lamp cluster and three-part windshield. The spy video also gives a hint of the exhaust note of Gurkha with a clear indication that Force has not tried to tamper with the key USP of the SUV. The cabin also boasts of several updates in the form of new dashboard layout with touchscreen infotainment system. However, the plastic and other materials are of the same quality as the current version.

Under the bonnet, 2020 Force Gurkha BS6 will have a 2.6L 4-cylinder diesel engine which will generate maximum power of 90bhp and peak torque in excess of 200Nm. The engine will be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while a 4x4 system will also be available with low-ratio transfer case in the range-topping variants. The company is believed to offer a host of off-road accessories with the SUV in the form of skid plates, alloy wheels, winch and a snorkel. The inclusion of snorkel is confirmed as the test mules earlier were spied sporting it. Meanwhile, Maruti is also working on the 5-door version of Jimny to take on the likes of Gurkha and Thar in the Indian market.
